Every animal in your herd plays a role in the bigger picture. When one goes off feed, comes up lame, or struggles at calving, it’s not just a production concern. It’s a moment that needs skilled, timely care. That’s what we’re here to provide.

At Bear Creek Large Animal Clinic, we offer straightforward, responsive veterinary care for cattle operations across Southern Oregon. We work with herd owners who want thoughtful care for their animals and real partnership from their vet. We show up prepared, communicate clearly, and respect the investment you’ve made in the health and future of your herd.

Herd Health & Prevention

Strong herds are built one healthy animal at a time

Preventive care helps your animals stay healthier, more comfortable, and better prepared for the demands of the season. At Bear Creek Large Animal Clinic, we create herd health plans that protect your animals from preventable disease, support growth and reproductive success, and help you avoid costly disruptions.

Services include:

  • Vaccination protocols tailored to your herd
  • Strategic deworming based on seasonal and regional risk
  • Nutritional assessments and weight checks
  • Bangs vaccinations for qualifying heifers
  • TB testing and regulatory support
  • Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) for sale, transport, or show

Reproductive Services

Protecting fertility, calving success, and the future of your herd

Reproductive efficiency drives your operation. Good outcomes rely on good care. From breeding soundness to pregnancy checks, we bring precision and follow-through to every stage of the cycle. We focus on early detection, informed decision-making, and hands-on care that keeps animals healthy and productive.

Services Include:

  • Pregnancy diagnosis by palpation or ultrasound
  • Fetal aging and sexing
  • Bull breeding soundness evaluations
  • Ovariectomy (heifer spays)
  • Pelvic measuring for replacement selection
  • Support for dystocia and obstetric complications

Lameness & Hoof Care

Lameness affects more than movement. It affects recovery, appetite, and health

A lame cow or bull is not just uncomfortable. They are at higher risk for secondary infections, lower fertility rates, and longer time off feed. We treat hoof issues with urgency and care using a combination of diagnostics, treatment, and prevention planning.

Services Include:

  • Hoof trimming and lesion management
  • Treatment for foot rot, sole ulcers, and white line disease
  • Pain control and local anesthesia
  • On-site assessments of footing and environmental contributors

Elective & Field-Based Surgical Procedures

Safe, efficient procedures performed on site

We perform a range of surgical procedures in the field using techniques that prioritize healing, minimize stress, and support both comfort and productivity. Whether it’s a routine castration or a more involved hernia repair, we bring the tools, skill, and follow-through to get it done safely on your operation.

Elective and soft-tissue surgeries include:

  • Castration
  • Cosmetic dehorning for show calves
  • Ovariectomy (heifer spays)
  • Corn removal
  • Umbilical hernia repair
  • Inguinal hernia repair
  • Enucleation
  • Other minor soft-tissue procedures as needed

Emergency Care

When it’s urgent, we treat the animal in front of us with focus and care

Concerned something’s wrong? Call us as soon as possible. It’s always better to act early.
If you’re an established client, you have access to urgent veterinary support every day. Our after-hours line is open until 9:00 p.m., with services resuming at 8:00 a.m. the following morning. If an emergency arises after hours, don’t wait until morning. Give us a call so we can assess the situation and determine next steps.

We respond to a wide range of serious cattle emergencies, from dystocia and uterine prolapse to down animals and sudden illness. We treat animals where they are and carry the tools needed for field-based surgical care when appropriate, including procedures like cesarean sections, eye removal, and hernia repairs.

Our goal is to stabilize the animal, relieve pain, and support the best possible outcome while keeping you informed every step of the way.

Common emergencies include:

  • Dystocia, including cesarean section
  • Uterine prolapse
  • Displaced abomasum (DA), if presented
  • Severe bloat
  • Down or non-ambulatory cattle
  • Sudden illness or trauma
